The BPEC Heat Pump Installer course is designed to provide installers with the knowledge required to correctly install both Air and Ground source heat pumps. This BPEC Heat Pump Installer qualification has been developed in conjunction with the Ground Source Heat Pump Association (GSHPA) ensuring that the training is recognised as demonstrating competence for the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.

- Introduction to GSHP
- Heat pump brine circuit technology
- GSHP Ground collectors including boreholes
- Installation and design considerations of ground source heat pumps
- Mechanical operation (refrigerant cycle) of heat pumps
- GSHP components
- GSHP Controls
- Commissioning, maintenance and fault finding of ground source heat pumps
Air Source Heat Pumps – ASHP
- Introduction to ASHP
- ASHP components
- ASHP Performance
- Sizing ASHP
- Controls of air source heat pumps
- Applications of air source heat pumps
- Installation and design considerations of air source heat pumps
- Commissioning, maintenance and fault finding of air source heat pumps
The course does not cover areas that form part of the main prerequisites.
Pre-Requisites
Candidates MUST hold:
- A recognised Water Regulations qualification
- A recognised Energy Efficiency qualification
AND MUST also have (or be working towards)
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing & Heating or equivalent earlier certification
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Heating & Ventilation or equivalent earlier certification
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Oil Fired technical services or equivalent earlier certification
- NVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Fired technical services or equivalent earlier certification
OR be able to prove
- at least three years verifiable relevant work experience
